Where it goes wrong in real life

Those are demo numbers. A real pool gives a rate like $23.7183 an hour, and 7.25 hours of that is $171.955. Round each share on its own and the payouts miss the pot — a $612.40 pool pays out $612.38, and someone has to account for the difference.

The fix is to hand the leftover cents out deliberately rather than to round: whole cents first, then the remainder one cent at a time to the largest fractions, in a stable order. The payout always equals the pool exactly, and TYPTAPP tells you how many cents it moved.
