How it works

Two sides of the same check.

One tool for the person paying, one for the person who has to divide it up afterwards.

Customer

Check, percentage, head count. The tip, the total and the per-person amount update as you type. Custom percentages, flat dollar tips, rounding and a per-person split are all one tap away.

Three tools: a tip out built from your house's rules, a tip pool split by hours or by weighted role, and a plain even split. Save a setup and the next shift takes seconds.

The money is never a floating-point number

Every amount in TYPTAPP is an integer number of cents from the moment it is typed to the moment it is printed. Percentages and hours are genuinely fractional and are handled as such, but the instant either one turns into money it becomes a whole number of cents. That is why you will never see $18.400000000000002 anywhere in this app.

How the leftover pennies are handled

Any split that does not divide evenly leaves a few cents over. TYPTAPP uses the largest remainder method: each share gets the whole-cent part of its exact value, then the remaining cents are handed out one at a time to the shares with the largest discarded fraction, with ties broken by position so the same inputs always give the same answer.

The consequence is the one that matters: a $100 pot always distributes to exactly $100.00, and a check split three ways always collects exactly the check. When a share ends up a cent higher than its neighbours, the app says so on screen rather than letting someone discover it at the terminal.

Rounding

Rounding is off by default. When you turn it on you can round the tip, the total, or both — to the nearest dollar or always up. Rounding the total adjusts the tip rather than the check, because the check is the check. If rounding down would push the tip below zero, TYPTAPP stops at zero instead of taking money off the table.

Where your numbers go

Nowhere. There is no calculation API and no account. Bill amounts, sales figures, tip totals, hours and employee names are processed in your browser and never transmitted.

Saved setups are stored in your browser's own storage on your device. They survive closing the tab and they do not follow you to another phone, because there is nothing syncing them. Clearing your browser data clears them, and so does the button on the privacy page.

Offline and on your home screen

After your first visit the calculators are cached on your device and keep working without a signal — useful in a basement dining room or a walk-in with no bars. You can also add TYPTAPP to your home screen from your browser's share menu and open it like an app. No app store, no login, no updates to install.

What it will not do

TYPTAPP is a calculator, not payroll software, tax software or legal advice. It has no opinion on whether a tip arrangement is permitted where you work — that depends on federal, state and local law and on your employer's arrangements, and it is a question for your employer, your labour department or a lawyer.
