Everything it does
The basics are the four things above: a check, a percentage, a head count and a total. The rest is there when you need it and out of the way when you do not.
- Any percentage. Tap Any and type it. 17.5% is as easy as 20%.
- A flat dollar tip. Type $20 and it tells you that is 21.7% of a $92 check. Neither number is forced on you.
- Rounding. Round the tip to a whole dollar, or round the total so the amount you sign for is clean. Rounding the total adjusts the tip, not the check.
- Split by person. When everyone ordered something different, enter each subtotal and choose whether the tip follows the order or the head count.
- Copy. One tap puts the whole thing on your clipboard, ready to send to whoever is paying you back.
The cents actually add up
Split $100 three ways and most calculators show $33.33 three times, which is $99.99. TYPTAPP gives one person $33.34, says so on screen, and the shares add back to the real total. The same rule runs through every split in the app, including the tip pools on the industry side.

- How do I use this tip calculator?
- Type the check amount, tap a percentage, and set how many people are splitting it. The tip, the total and the per-person amount update as you type — there is no calculate button.
- Can I enter a dollar tip instead of a percentage?
- Yes. Tap Any and use the flat tip box; the calculator shows you what percentage that works out to. Change either box and the other follows.
- Does it work without a signal?
- After your first visit, yes. The calculator is cached on your device, so it keeps working in a basement dining room. You can also add it to your home screen.
- Can I use it on a trip abroad?
