Splitting what you are leaving

That is the calculator above. Enter the check, pick the tip, set the head count. It shows the total each person owes and, underneath, how much of that is tip — because the number people actually want to know is usually the whole amount, not the tip on its own.

Splitting what you made

If you are on the other side of the check, switch the control at the top to Tip out. Three tools live there:

The cent that will not divide

Whichever direction you are splitting in, TYPTAPP works in whole cents and distributes the remainder deliberately — one cent at a time, to the largest fractions, in a stable order. A $100 split three ways pays out $100.00, not $99.99.

Common questions

How do I split a tip between people?
Divide the tip by the number of people. If the tip is part of a check you are splitting, add it to the check first and divide the total — the per-person amount is what actually gets paid.
How do I split tips between staff at the end of a shift?
Switch to the Tip out side and use Split evenly for an equal share, or Tip pool to divide by hours worked or by weighted role.
What happens to the odd cent?
It goes to a specific person rather than being rounded onto everybody. The shares always add back to the exact amount, and TYPTAPP says when a share is a cent higher than the others.
